Something happens when a stranger hands you a paintbrush.
We stood in Central Park with three empty canvases and invited people to join. We watched people work through it in real time. The kids didn't think twice. They grabbed a brush, dunked it, and went. No pause, no permission, no worry about what it would look like when they were done.
The adults did something else entirely. They'd walk up, hover, ask if it was okay, ask what they were "supposed" to paint. Several people said they weren't "artists”, and some said they didn't want to mess it up. And then, for those who decided to try it out, they picked up the brush and something in their face changed.
That's the whole idea behind Issue 02. Somewhere between being a kid and being an adult, most of us trade our fearlessness for routine. We stop trying new things, stop saying yes, and convince ourselves the stakes are higher than they actually are. But standing in front of a blank canvas with a stranger's paint already on it, there's nothing to mess up. It's all fun, it's all beautiful, it's all life.
